On February 13, 2026, 19-year-old Toby Coucill was found guilty of rape and sexual assault at Northampton Crown Court following an incident in Northampton in August 2025, a result that police hope will reassure the local community.

A jury convicted Coucill of one count of rape and two counts of sexual assault following a trial that lasted two weeks. The offences took place in August 2025 and were investigated by the specialist SOLAR team, which handles serious sexual crimes for Northamptonshire Police.

Detective Constable Chantal Carrington of Northamptonshire Police led the investigation and praised the survivor for her courage. The survivor said she wanted to share the result to show that the shame of the crime “does not lie with her but with Toby Coucill.”

Coucill remains in custody and will be sentenced at Northampton Crown Court on March 20, 2026. Local officers hope this conviction demonstrates that serious sexual offences are being pursued and will encourage more people to feel safe reporting such crimes.
