Carlton, Nottinghamshire residents are facing a week of extreme weather changes as freezing morning temperatures recorded by the Met Office are set to give way to an unseasonably warm weekend.

A Yellow Warning for Ice remained in place for the area until 10:00 AM on Tuesday, February 17, 2026. While daytime highs start at 5°C, overnight temperatures are forecast to feel as cold as -4°C on Wednesday and Thursday mornings.

By Sunday, February 22, 2026, temperatures are expected to climb sharply to 14°C, which is nearly double the typical February average of 7-8°C for the region. This rapid shift has prompted advice from Severn Trent Water regarding household maintenance.

The water provider warned that a sudden thaw after a freeze can cause pipes to leak or burst if they are not properly protected with insulation. Residents are encouraged to check the lagging on pipes in colder areas like lofts and garages to help prevent plumbing joints from failing.

With wetter and windier conditions also predicted for the weekend, people are advised to clear their gutters and allow extra time for travel during the icy starts to the week.
