The Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service will host the first South West Regional Firefighter Challenge and a community fun day on May 23, 2026, in Gloucester, Gloucestershire. This free event will take place at the Gloucester Docks in the area outside Mariners Church between 09:00 and 17:00.

Firefighters from across the region will compete in eight different tests designed to show what they do during real-life emergencies. These tasks include climbing three floors of stairs and pulling heavy water hoses to test the physical strength and endurance of the teams.

The competition is part of the British Firefighter Challenge series, which raises money for The Fire Fighters Charity. This group provides mental and physical support to members of the UK fire service and their families.

Families attending the event can visit a community fun day to meet local emergency teams. Members of the Gloucestershire Constabulary and the South Western Ambulance Service will be on hand to meet the public, and children can take part in a specialised kids challenge course.

Fire Crew Manager Amy Lynex is helping to organise the day to give residents a chance to learn about fire safety. The event provides free local entertainment and a direct opportunity to meet the professionals who serve the community.
