The Watford Palace Theatre in Hertfordshire is introducing a flexible ticket pricing scheme for three performances of an immersive play this April to help make local culture more affordable.
Visitors can choose their own ticket price for the production of Handle With Care on April 7, April 14, and April 21, 2026. This pay-what-you-can offer is designed to help people on tight budgets enjoy live performances and encourage new audiences to visit the venue.
The play is a site-specific production created by the theatre company Dante or Die. Written by Chloë Moss and directed by Daphna Attias, the story follows a woman named Zoe and explores her life through the objects she keeps in a self-storage unit over several decades.
These special evenings take place on Tuesdays and are part of the theatre’s Local Artist Tuesday project. This initiative focuses on community work and experimental shows held in the five new creative hubs that the venue opened to celebrate its 115th anniversary.
Steve Marmion, the CEO and Director of Programming, joined the theatre in 2023 with a goal to make the historic building a more inclusive space. He has noted that the arts industry is under pressure because there is less funding available and residents have less money in their pockets during the current cost-of-living crisis.
