Watford Borough Council is hosting a free community fun day on March 1, 2026, to celebrate the completion of a £3 million refurbishment at Watford Leisure Centre – Central in Hertfordshire. The event, which runs from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, marks the end of a major building project that started in August 2025 to modernise the town fitness facilities.

The renovation has nearly doubled the size of the gym and added new equipment specifically designed for people with disabilities. Visitors can also explore three new high-quality studios, including a specialised indoor cycling room equipped with 28 bikes and immersive lighting.

Team GB sprinter and television star Harry Aikines-Aryeetey, known as Nitro from the show Gladiators, will attend the celebration between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm. He is set to meet with local residents, sign autographs, and take part in fitness challenges at the centre, which is managed by Everyone Active.

Official bookings for stalls and specific activity sessions opened on February 16, 2026. Local groups and families are encouraged to register early to secure their spots for the various free taster sessions and entertainment planned for the day.
