Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, is set to experience a significant change in weather starting Friday, February 20, 2026, as a cold spell is replaced by strong winds and milder temperatures. According to the Met Office, the area will see peak wind gusts of 32 miles per hour throughout the weekend.

Residents should prepare for a 90 per cent chance of heavy rain on Friday morning between 10:00 AM and 11:00 AM. These windy conditions are expected to continue from Friday through to Sunday, February 22, 2026, potentially causing travel delays or issues for those with outdoor plans.

The town will see a noticeable jump in temperature, rising from a high of 5°C on Thursday to 13°C by Saturday. Chief Forecaster Jason Kelly noted that Atlantic air is moving in, which could lead to exceptionally mild weather for this time of year with highs reaching 16°C in some sheltered parts of the country.

While the 32 mile per hour gusts are not currently under a formal weather warning, they are strong enough to affect high-sided vehicles and loose garden furniture. The Environment Agency has also kept flood warnings in place for parts of England as the wintry weather turns into heavy rain.

Local drivers are encouraged to take extra care on the roads during the school run and morning commutes. North Northamptonshire Council remains responsible for managing any hazards on the roads that might be caused by the unsettled conditions.
