Household waste and recycling collections have returned to their regular routine in York, North Yorkshire, after access problems stopped crews from reaching some streets earlier in February 2026.

The City of York Council confirmed that all household waste and recycling were collected as planned on February 17, 2026, and February 18, 2026. This follow-up comes after bin lorries were unable to reach certain neighbourhoods because of blocked roads.

On February 16, 2026, teams could not pick up waste from parts of Fulford and Fishergate. Similar issues also affected people in Rawcliffe and Clifton Without on February 13, 2026, specifically on Surrey Way, Shotel Close, Landau Close, and Brougham Close.

Residents who had their bins missed are asked to leave their containers out so that teams can empty them as soon as possible. The council suggests checking for waste collection updates before reporting a missed bin.

While regular bin rounds have restarted, garden waste collections are currently not running as part of the usual winter break. People can find their specific collection dates by visiting the waste collection calendar or get help with missed waste collections online.
