Stuart Williams, 57, formerly of Moore Street, Blackpool, Lancashire, was sentenced to 12 years in prison on February 17, 2026, after being found guilty of 17 sexual offences. According to Lancashire Police, Williams was convicted at Preston Crown Court of crimes including the attempted rape of a girl under 16 and several indecent assaults.

The investigation into Williams involved an undercover operation where he sent messages to police officers he believed were girls aged 12 and 13. Even after he was arrested and released on bail for his initial crimes, he continued to message a second person he thought was a child.

Williams previously worked as a school caretaker and cleaner in Penwortham and Lytham. During the 12-day trial, the court heard how he used this role to abuse his position of trust with children who were in the school environment.

A jury took only three hours to reach a unanimous guilty verdict on all counts. While giving evidence during the trial, Williams also admitted to two counts of making indecent images of children.

Officers from Lancashire Police praised the survivors for their courage in coming forward to report abuse that occurred decades ago. DC Hannah Sturgess stated that the sentencing helps provide closure for the victims who were targeted by Williams.
