Stockport, Greater Manchester, has officially kept its status as a top destination for a safe and well-managed night out after retaining the Purple Flag award for the seventh year in a row on February 12, 2026. The recognition confirms that the town centre meets high national standards for safety and variety for visitors between 5 PM and 5 AM.

Stockport Council and the local business group Totally Stockport worked together to secure the award from the Association of Town and City Management. A major part of this year’s success was the Stockroom cultural hub, which has seen an average of 100,000 visits every month since it opened in May 2025.

To keep the area secure for everyone, local bars and restaurants have taken part in the Licensing Security and Vulnerability Initiative training to help staff look after customers. This focus on safety comes as the town continues to grow, with 10 new businesses opening their doors over the last 12 months to welcome more people in the evenings.

Residents can visit the town with confidence knowing it was also recently named the Foodie Neighbourhood of the Year and listed as one of the best places to visit in the country. Local leaders hope the award will help pubs and restaurants continue to attract more people by proving the town centre is a welcoming and secure environment.
