Families and school groups in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, will have the chance to see a new historical rock show when Horrible Histories – The Concert arrives at the Sunderland Empire on April 17 and 18, 2026. The production offers a lively and educational night out for children that connects directly to the national curriculum.
Produced by the Birmingham Stage Company and Lion Television, the tour celebrates the 20th anniversary of the brand’s live stage shows. Unlike previous plays, this performance uses a concert format featuring a live band and actors from the original CBBC television series.
The cast includes familiar faces such as Richard David-Caine and Harrie Hayes, who will perform popular songs from the franchise. Audience members can expect to hear well-known tracks like “Stupid Deaths,” “The Monarchs Song,” and “Dick Turpin” during the high-energy event.
The Sunderland Empire is a historic Grade II listed building that first opened in 1907. It remains one of the largest theatres in the region with space for up to 1,860 people to watch the show.
This show aims to provide an accessible introduction to live theatre for primary-age children. Tickets for the two-day run are available through ATG Entertainment.
