Lancaster residents are invited to take part in a new series of free workshops starting on March 18, 2026, designed to help families preserve and display their history. The sessions, titled Heritage and History in Practice, will take place in nearby Preston and are aimed at anyone interested in researching their family trees or local archives in Lancashire.
The programme is led by Dr. Brandon Reece Taylorian, a research fellow with the university who specialises in public history. Over six sessions, participants will learn how to identify the historical value of their own items, digitise old documents, and think of creative ways to present their stories to the public.
The workshops will be held every two weeks on Wednesday evenings from 6:00pm to 9:00pm at Livesey House on the university campus. While the sessions are free to join, those attending must bring their own personal or family materials to use during the hands-on training.
This outreach effort is being organised by the University of Lancashire, which recently updated its name from the University of Central Lancashire in late 2025. The project aims to bring academic expertise to local communities to help people professionalise their personal research and potentially see it included in public exhibitions and a new podcast series.
