The Met Office has issued a long-range outlook for Basingstoke, Hampshire, as a period of strong winds and heavy rain is expected to hit the area between February 28 and March 9, 2026. Forecasters say that a series of Atlantic systems will bring unpredictable conditions, including wind gusts reaching up to 32mph as early as Friday, February 27, 2026. These winds could cause problems for people with unsecured garden items or those planning to travel across the county.

Outdoor activities may be affected by the weather, including the weekly market held at the Top of Town on Saturday, February 28 and March 7, 2026. Organisers of the Wessex Night League orienteering event, which is set to take place in Winklebury on March 5, 2026, are also monitoring the situation through the Basingstoke Andover District Orienteers.

This forecast follows the impact of Storm Chandra in January, as well as the powerful Storm Éowyn which caused significant disruption across the country in early 2025. If the upcoming weather systems become severe enough to be named, the next storms on the official storm name list for the 2025/26 season will be called Dave and Eddie.

While temperatures are expected to stay between 12 and 14 degrees Celsius, the Met Office notes that wind and rain will likely make it feel much colder for anyone spending time outdoors.
