The leader of Surrey Heath Borough Council has shared his disappointment with a government response about the site of the Frimley Park Hospital rebuild in Camberley, Surrey. Cllr Shaun Macdonald said a letter from Health Minister Karin Smyth failed to address how a new location would affect local traffic, schools, and green spaces.

The current hospital must be replaced by 2030 because it was built using a type of crumbling concrete known as RAAC. Cllr Macdonald argued that the minister’s reply focused on commercial details rather than the practical impact the new building will have on the daily lives of residents.

The Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust is expected to name its preferred site in early 2026. There has been significant talk in the community that the new hospital could be built on the Pine Ridge Golf Club or land owned by the Frimley Fuel Allotments charity.

Plans for the new facility are moving quickly, with a formal planning application due to be submitted in August 2026. The council leader originally raised concerns about potential site flaws in a letter sent to the government on December 18, 2025.

Residents are currently waiting for a final decision on the location, which must be finished within four years to replace the existing unsafe structure. The council continues to push for more information to ensure the community is involved in the decision-making process.
