Basingstoke Voluntary Action launched a new borough-wide campaign on February 23, 2026, to help more people in Basingstoke, Hampshire, find local ways to help their community. The project, called Why I Volunteer, aims to celebrate those already helping out while matching new residents with roles in local charities and community groups.

The campaign uses a digital service called Volunteer North Hampshire to connect people with specific tasks that fit their interests. This platform makes it easier for residents to see what help is needed and apply for roles that support local fundraisers and services.

According to the team at Basingstoke Voluntary Action, the group currently supports more than 500 local non-profit organisations with advice and resources. Chief Executive Daniel Neat is leading the effort to strengthen these services through the new recruitment drive.

The charity’s board is also under new leadership, with Francesca Maritan-Hawkins recently taking over as the chair of trustees. By sharing personal stories from current helpers, the campaign hopes to fill important gaps in services across the borough and encourage others to get involved.
