Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council in Leicestershire has approved a 2.6 per cent increase to its share of council tax for the 2026/27 financial year to protect local services. The decision, made during a budget meeting on February 19, 2026, means the average Band D property will pay £164.02 for the borough council portion of their bill.

According to the Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council, the area remains the lowest taxed district in Leicestershire. The council is also expected to have the 15th lowest tax rate out of all district councils across England for the coming year.

The total annual bill for a Band D home will be higher once other organisations add their charges. Residents will also pay £1,731.79 to Leicestershire County Council, £315.23 for the Police, and £91.65 for the Fire Authority.

Council leaders stated that the price rise is necessary because of a reduction in government grants and the ongoing cost-of-living crisis. Councillor Keith Lynch, who is responsible for the council budget, noted that the increase for a Band D home works out to about 8p per week.

Council Leader Stuart Bray cautioned that while rates are currently low, potential future changes to how local government is organised could lead to higher costs for residents. For now, the borough continues to stay within the lowest 25 per cent of taxed areas in the country.
