Households in Swadlincote, Derbyshire, will soon receive their new or replacement recycling bin inserts as deliveries began on February 25, 2026. South Derbyshire District Council confirmed that a fresh stock of inner caddies has arrived to resolve a supplier delay that had been in place since late 2025.
These small blue containers are used to separate paper and cardboard inside the main green recycling bins. Residents who have been waiting for a replacement should receive theirs shortly, ending a period where they were asked to use temporary containers for their paper waste while waiting for new stock to arrive.
This update comes as the local council prepares for bigger changes to how rubbish is collected across the area. A new weekly food waste collection service is set to launch on June 1, 2026, to meet national recycling rules. According to South Derbyshire District Council, this service was originally meant to start in April but was pushed back because of national delays in getting new collection vehicles.
Families will receive another set of bins specifically for food waste starting in early April 2026. These will be different from the paper inserts currently being delivered. Cllr Stephen Taylor, who leads the committee for environmental services, said the new weekly service is a big change for the district, which previously collected food waste every two weeks along with garden rubbish.
