On 26 February 2026, York City Football Club launched a new service called Matchday Buddy to help supporters who need extra assistance during games in York, North Yorkshire. The scheme aims to support people who feel hesitant about attending live matches or who require physical help to navigate the stadium environment.

The initiative is a partnership with Age UK York, which is the club’s official charity partner for the 2025-2026 season. Although the club is working with a charity that focuses on older people, the support service is available to fans of all ages who want to attend games.

This new offering is managed by the York City FC Foundation, which recently hired a full-time officer to focus on disability and wellbeing. Staff or volunteers acting as buddies will help fans with things like finding their way around the ground or providing social support during the match.

Matches take place at the LNER Community Stadium, which already includes accessibility features like lifts to all floors in the East and West stands. The ground also provides specialised stoma-friendly facilities in every accessible toilet to ensure all visitors are comfortable during their visit.
