TK Maxx opened a new, larger shop inside The Bridges Shopping Centre in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, at 10:00 AM on Thursday, 26 February 2026. The move provides shoppers with a modern 16,200 square foot space that is now located in a more central part of the mall.

The retail brand moved from its previous outdoor unit on Crowtree Road to the new indoor spot next to Primark. This larger shop was created by joining several smaller units together, including the space that used to be home to a Tesco store.

To celebrate the opening, the shop held a special treasure hunt for customers with 102 gift card tags hidden around the store. According to Sunderland BID, this relocation is part of a plan to keep major brands in the heart of the city centre to encourage more people to visit the high street.

The Bridges Shopping Centre director, Karen Eve, said the move helps to keep the shopping centre vibrant by bringing well-known brands into the main internal mall. While the new store is now open, the old TK Maxx unit on Crowtree Road is currently empty alongside the former Debenhams site.
