Reports of violence and sexual offences increased across the neighbourhoods of Bilston and Wednesfield in Wolverhampton, West Midlands, during January 2026. Data published by West Midlands Police shows that these incidents were the most common types of crime reported in both areas during the first month of the year.

In the Bilston and East Park area, there were 165 reports of violence and sexual offences in January 2026, which is an increase from the 151 cases recorded in December 2025. The total number of crimes reported in this part of the city also grew during this time, reaching 424 incidents compared to 374 in the previous month.

In Wednesfield and Heath Town, the number of reports rose from 145 in December to 169 in January 2026. To address safety concerns in the community, local officers have been carrying out knife sweeps along canal towpaths and across the Heath Town estate as part of their regular work.

The City of Wolverhampton Council recently finished a public consultation on 26 February 2026 regarding a new safety order for the Bentley Bridge area. This plan aims to give officials more powers to stop anti-social behaviour in the busy shopping and leisure district that borders Wednesfield.

These changes in local crime figures come at a time when the regional police force is under new temporary leadership. Acting Chief Constable Scott Green took over the top role following the retirement of Chief Constable Craig Guildford in January 2026.
