The drop in crime comes as police leaders express concern over a proposal from Warrington Borough Council to cut £220,000 from the local CCTV budget. Chief Constable Mark Roberts warned that moving to a system where cameras are not monitored in real-time would likely lead to fewer arrests and an increase in local crime.
In 2025, live camera monitoring in the town centre helped police attend 3,500 incidents and led to approximately 600 arrests. Police and Crime Commissioner Dan Price is currently in talks with the council to try and find a way to keep the live monitoring service active for the community.
