New police data released on 28 February 2026 shows that shoplifting and violent crimes were the most common offences reported across Walton-On-Thames, Surrey, during January 2026. The figures provide a look at the types of incidents affecting the town centre and surrounding residential neighbourhoods.

According to Surrey Police, shoplifting was the most frequent crime in the town centre area with 18 incidents, while violence and sexual offences followed closely with 17 reports. In the North Walton area, there were 27 reports of violence and sexual offences, and 16 similar cases were recorded in South Walton and Ambleside.

The total number of crimes across the three policing areas reached 163 for the month, which is a slight drop from the 170 incidents seen in December 2025. This information comes as the Walton Business Improvement District prepares to start a new term on 1 April 2026 to help local businesses with security and footfall.

Surrey Police has set a goal to increase shoplifting charges by 430 across the county by August 2026 as part of a new retail crime plan. Officials like Inspector Chris Thoday and Police and Crime Commissioner Lisa Townsend are encouraging residents and shop staff to report all incidents to help officers identify crime hotspots.
