Swindon Borough Council has announced a new four-year plan to spend more than £29 million on fixing and resurfacing roads across Swindon, Wiltshire. The proposal aims to improve more than 60 roads over the next two years to make travel smoother for drivers and bus users.

Councillors will meet on Wednesday 4 March 2026 to review the programme, which is supported by a 45 per cent increase in money from the central government. This extra funding is designed to help the council deal with a backlog of road maintenance that is estimated to cost around £50 million.

In the first year of the plan, the council expects to spend nearly £6 million, with £2.9 million set aside for resurfacing work on busy routes like Blagrove Roundabout, Bath Road, and Commercial Road. Residents should prepare for short-term road closures and local diversions while repairs are carried out on other roads, including Station Road and Penhill Drive.

The plan also includes more than £700,000 for street lighting and £530,000 for pavement repairs. Councillor Chris Watts, the cabinet member for transport, said the funding allows the council to move toward larger road rebuilding projects that will provide visible improvements to the town’s surfaces.
