New figures from the Cambridgeshire Constabulary show that 314 crimes were reported in Peterborough city centre, Cambridgeshire, during January 2026. This total represents nearly nine per cent of all crimes recorded in the heart of the city over the last year.

Violence and sexual offences were the most frequent reports with 96 incidents, followed by 56 cases of anti-social behaviour and 44 reports of shoplifting. The policing team, led by Inspector Sam Tucker, also recorded 33 public order offences during the same month.

A specialist group called the Spree Offender Team is currently working in the area to catch people responsible for repeat shoplifting and bike thefts. The local police force also uses a dedicated officer to support safety and build trust with people involved in on-street sex work.

The release of these statistics comes as Peterborough City Council runs a six-week public survey to help improve the city. The survey, which started on 2 February 2026, asks residents for their views on safety and how to update the city centre for the future.
