Reports of violence and sexual offences rose in the Colchester Town East area of Essex during January 2026, according to the latest figures. Data from Essex Police shows that total crime reports in this part of the town increased from 490 in December 2025 to 558 in the first month of the new year.

There were 246 reports of violence and sexual offences recorded in the Town East sector last month, making it the most common type of crime in the area. These types of incidents now account for approximately 46.5 per cent of all crimes reported in the wider Colchester area, according to data from Plumplot.

The new figures follow a year where violent crime in the town grew by 8 per cent throughout 2025. Statistics from CrimeRate show that a total of 5,498 such offences were recorded across the district during that 12-month period.

In response to local crime trends, District Commander Chief Inspector Michelle Sparks has overseen recent police activity in the town. This included a targeted drug supply operation in February 2026 which resulted in several people being charged, according to information released by Essex Police.
