Recorded crime in Beeston, Nottinghamshire, rose to 235 incidents in January 2026 as local officers targeted shoplifting and violence. This is an increase from the 213 crimes reported in December 2025, according to the latest figures released on 28 February 2026.

Data from Police.uk shows that violence and sexual offences were the most common issues, with 52 reports made during the month. Other frequent crimes included 48 reports of shoplifting, 35 incidents of anti-social behaviour, and 21 cases of criminal damage and arson.

To tackle these issues, Inspector Usha Madaraa is leading a project called Operation Cognition. This scheme works with the local council to teach the community about the dangers of using alcohol and cocaine at the same time, which often leads to local violence.

Officers have also focused on retail crime, including the arrest of a 39-year-old man Tommy Lawrence who appeared in court on 20 January. Safety in the town centre has been supported by new cameras and emergency refuge points funded by the Safer Streets initiative.

Future police priorities will be shaped by the What Matters survey, which closed on 12 January 2026. The feedback from this survey will help the neighbourhood team decide where to focus their patrols and resources throughout the rest of the year.
