The Washington Area Committee will meet on 12 March 2026 to discuss how community grants and local services are managed across the town in Tyne and Wear. The meeting is set to take place at 18:00 at the Millennium Centre, where local representatives will review funding for projects that benefit residents in the five local wards.

Community organisations can apply for financial support through the Neighbourhood Fund and the Community Chest, which are overseen by Sunderland City Council. Successful groups can receive up to £5,000 paid directly into their accounts to help with the costs of running local projects, festivals, and safety initiatives.

The committee also looks at how local facilities are used, such as the 60-seat lecture room at the Washington Community Fire Station. This building has recently become a shared hub where the Northumbria Police Neighbourhood Policing Team works alongside fire and ambulance services to keep public resources accessible.

This upcoming session follows a report on local boundary changes that was presented to the council cabinet in February 2026. These administrative changes could affect the way the committee works in the future as the area prepares for the local elections in May.
