Families in the village of Wilby, Northamptonshire, are calling for a new play area following the submission of a community petition on 27 February 2026. Councillor Victor James presented the petition, which was signed by 260 residents, to the leader of the local council to highlight the need for safe outdoor spaces for children.

The demand for a new facility is driven by a growing number of families moving to the village and a lack of modern equipment for young people. A formal project proposal from a specialist manufacturer was submitted alongside the signatures to show how the current field could be improved.

Council Leader Martin Griffiths received the documents after his Reform UK administration took control of the council in May 2025. At present, the local community helps fund the upkeep of the existing recreation ground through a village lottery, according to the Wilby community website.

The Wilby Parish Council and local parents hope the new project will provide a safe environment that supports the health and development of children. The discussion will now focus on finding the money needed to replace the ageing play equipment currently at the site.
