The Met Office has predicted a week of unseasonably mild and dry weather for Canvey Island, Essex, with temperatures expected to climb as high as 16°C by Thursday 5 March 2026. This settled spell is caused by a high-pressure system sitting over the region, which means there is a very low chance of rain for most of the week.

While the days are expected to be bright and clear, the forecaster has warned of thick fog and mist on Tuesday 3 March and Wednesday 4 March 2026. These patches are likely to form overnight and could cause some travel delays for residents during the early morning hours before the sun breaks through.

Despite the pleasant forecast, local officials are reminding people to stay aware of the island’s unique geography, as ground levels sit nearly two metres below the daily high tide mark in the Thames Estuary. According to Castle Point Borough Council, the risk of flooding remains a constant factor for the community even during dry weather spells.

Residents now have better protection from the sea following the completion of a £75 million flood defence project on the southern shoreline in late 2025. The Environment Agency finished this major work to strengthen the sea walls between Thorney Bay and the Island Yacht Club to help protect thousands of local homes.
