Residents in Basildon interested in a career working with children can attend a free jobs fair on Thursday 21 May 2026. Hosted by Pathways, a partnership initiative between Basildon Borough Council and local employment providers, the event will take place between 12:00pm and 1:00pm at the Basildon Centre.

The fair aims to connect local people with a wide range of job opportunities in the childcare sector. Available roles include positions at nurseries, forest pre-schools, and sports clubs, as well as openings for teaching assistants, childminders, foster carers, and school crossing patrol staff. There will also be opportunities to work in activities for children with complex disabilities or to support those who have experienced domestic abuse.

In addition to recruitment, attendees will have the chance to sign up for free training courses designed to help those new to the field or looking to develop their existing skills. A council spokesperson noted that the event is a fantastic opportunity for residents to explore these rewarding careers while receiving free expert advice.

The event is being held to address growing local and national needs, with the Department for Education previously estimating that the country requires thousands of additional workers to support the expansion of childcare services. Those interested in attending can visit the Pathways desk located in the entrance foyer of the Basildon Centre in St Martin’s Square.
