Residents in Basildon have more shopping and dining options following the arrival of several new businesses at Basildon Market over the past two weeks. The expansion at the St Martin’s Square site comes as Basildon Borough Council moves forward with its town centre regeneration programme.

The new food traders include The Peri Peri Grill at Kiosk 37, which serves a menu of burgers, pizzas, wraps, grilled chicken, wings, and loaded fries. The stall is open from 11am to 10pm, Monday through Saturday, and offers delivery via several major apps. Also joining the market is Karak & Falafel at K43, offering a selection of kebabs, falafel, wraps, burgers, and sweet treats like Dubai Chocolate. It is open from 11am to 4pm, Tuesday through Saturday. Additionally, Uncle Jack’s Kitchen has begun serving a variety of dishes including Mauritian cuisine, pizza, burgers, and breakfast options.

For shoppers, a new retail business called Shien Lux has opened at Unit 35B. The shop specialises in women’s and children’s clothing at affordable prices and is open from 9am to 4pm on market days.

These new additions follow the council’s decision to take full control of town centre management on 1 April 2026. This change gives the local authority direct responsibility for the market, car parks, and bus station as part of a wider £600 million masterplan intended to revitalise the area.
