A 31-year-old man from Pitsea has been charged with five offences following a report of a serious sexual assault against a teenage girl in Basildon. Mohammed Younas, of Bearstead Drive, was arrested by Essex Police on 3 May 2026 after reports of an incident at Ashlyns.

Authorities were called to the area shortly after 6pm on 30 April. It is alleged that the teenager was grabbed, taken to a secluded location, and sexually assaulted.

Following his arrest, Younas appeared at Southend Magistrates’ Court on 5 May 2026. He is facing charges of kidnap, false imprisonment, and engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child. In addition to these charges, he is also accused of possession with intent to supply Class A and Class B drugs, as well as possessing criminal property. He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear before Basildon Crown Court on 2 June 2026.

This case follows recent reporting by local law enforcement regarding ongoing efforts to address crime in the area. According to police records from early 2026, there were 430 more crimes solved in Basildon during 2025 compared to the previous year, with violence and sexual offences identified as the most commonly reported types of crime.
