Children across the borough of Basingstoke and Deane in Hampshire are being invited to design posters that encourage people not to drop litter. The Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council launched the competition this month to help keep local streets and parks tidy.
The contest is open to all residents aged 16 and under and is split into four age categories. These groups include children aged 4-7, 8-10, 11-13, and 14-16, which allows young people of different ages to show off their artistic skills.
Winners will have their artwork displayed in public spaces across the borough for one year to remind others to bin their rubbish responsibly. Additionally, the winning artists will secure a donation of litter-picking equipment for their school or local community group.
This initiative is part of the wider Keep Basingstoke and Deane Clean campaign. It follows two weeks of community action and litter-picking events that took place throughout February 2026.
Those wishing to enter must submit their designs before the closing date on Saturday, 2 May 2026. The council hopes the project will encourage younger residents to take an interest in caring for their local community.
