Families across Basingstoke, Hampshire, are set to benefit from safer and modernised play equipment as the local council continues its park improvement project throughout 2026. Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council announced on February 17, 2026, that several sites have already been finished or are seeing new construction start.
The play area at Arlott Drive in South View has officially reopened for local children after being completely transformed with brand new equipment. Upgrade work is also nearly finished at Two Gate Meadow in Overton, which will soon offer new equipment for toddlers and primary school children. New construction also began at the Cranesfield play area in Sherborne St John earlier this month.
Council leaders have now named the next four locations for improvements later this year. These sites include Warblington Close in Tadley, Constantine Way in Hatch Warren, Meadowland in Chineham, and the Eastrop Community Centre.
The council is responsible for looking after 147 play areas across the borough and uses a scoring system based on age and safety to decide which ones need help first. According to the 2025/26 budget, an extra £180,000 was set aside specifically to pay for these park upgrades.
Residents living near the next four sites will soon be invited to share their thoughts on the new designs. This process allows families to have a say in what kind of equipment is installed to ensure the parks are accessible for children of all abilities.
