Hampshire County Council has issued a reminder to parents in Basingstoke, Hampshire, to submit their school transport applications for the 2026/2027 academic year before upcoming deadlines. Families who rely on council-provided travel must complete their applications on time to ensure reviews are finished before the new term begins in September 2026.

According to Hampshire County Council, the closing date for mainstream primary and secondary school transport is 31 May 2026. Families of children with special educational needs and disabilities, as well as those applying for transport for students over the age of 16, have until 30 June 2026 to submit their details.

New rules for the upcoming year mean that students aged 16 to 18 will generally only qualify for transport if they have special educational needs and come from a low-income household. Families of new users or those with changed circumstances will also be required to pay a financial contribution toward the service starting in September 2026.

The council warns that any applications received after these dates will only be looked at after the on-time ones have been finished. This could mean that transport is not in place for the start of the autumn term, potentially leaving students without a guaranteed way to get to school.
