Chineham Library in Basingstoke, Hampshire, is hosting drop-in craft sessions for children on the first Saturday of every month to provide families with an affordable way to stay creative.

The sessions take place from 10 am to 12 pm and are designed for children aged 3 to 8. Each session costs £1 per child, and there is no need to book in advance as families can pay at the desk on the day.

Parents or carers must stay with their children during the event at the library, which is located inside the Chineham Shopping Centre. These sessions allow local parents to meet and keep their children engaged in a creative environment.

This library was kept open after a record-breaking public consultation in 2020 when it faced a closure threat.  Hampshire County Council is currently managing an estimated budget gap of £132 million for the period starting April 2025.

By running low-cost events, the library aims to stay useful to the community while the council works to reduce spending on library stock and other services.
