Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council is hosting a series of volunteer clean-up events this weekend in Basingstoke, Hampshire, to help residents remove litter and graffiti from their local neighbourhoods.

On Saturday, February 21, 2026, sessions will start at 9:30am in Hartley Wespall and at 10:30am at both the Gillies Health Centre and Sherfield Community Centre. Another event is planned for Sunday, February 22, 2026, at the Beggarwood Cafe in the Park starting at 10:00am. Residents do not need to book in advance and will be provided with litter pickers, gloves, and bags.

The sessions are part of the Keep Basingstoke and Deane Clean campaign which runs until March 2, 2026. This initiative focuses on improving public spaces by tackling issues like fly-tipping and dog fouling. Any rubbish collected by the volunteers will be removed by the council’s waste contractor, Serco.

The effort comes ahead of changes to local bin collections, with weekly food waste pickups and fortnightly general waste collections starting in September 2026. The borough recently celebrated the work of its cleansing team when worker Mohamed Ali was thanked by King Charles for his 11 years of service.
