Bus passengers in Beeston are paying more for day travel from Sunday 21 June, as Nottingham City Transport raised the price of its Adult City Zone day ticket to £5.70, the first increase in almost fifteen months. The operator also bumped up the Under 19 City Zone ticket to £3.70 and the Group Day ticket, known as Grouprider, to £10.00, while leaving single fares untouched under the National Fare Cap Scheme.
To cushion the blow for evening travellers, NCT is rolling out a new £2 Evening Single ticket valid from 7pm every day, slashing the standard single fare by a third. Anthony Carver-Smith, NCT Head of Marketing at Projects, said the cheaper evening fare is timed for the lighter summer nights and comes as the hospitality sector warns of cost pressures because people have cut their spending. The ticket works across the entire network until the last bus and can be bought with cash, contactless payment, or the NCTX Buses App.
Alex Flint, CEO of the city’s Business Improvement District It’s in Nottingham, welcomed the move, pointing out that while Nottingham is known for its vibrant night life and city centre attractions, some consumers are choosing to spend less on socialising, which hurts businesses. NCT recently topped the Transport Focus survey for overall customer satisfaction, making it the operator with the most satisfied bus passengers in the country, and the 36 route remains a key link between Beeston, Chilwell, and the city centre.
The day ticket changes took effect alongside wider network adjustments on Sunday 21 June. Separate increases to season ticket and Robin Hood ticket prices were already applied back in March and are not part of this round. NCT says rising costs for insurance, business taxation, parts, and staffing drove the decision, while fuel and energy expenses were partly softened by earlier fixed-price deals.
The £2 evening fare is also designed to boost journeys after dark, which the operator says have dipped in some areas. Details of the new ticket and the day price changes are available on NCT’s website, with the Evening Single pitched as a cheaper way to reach restaurants, bars, and evening events across Nottingham.
