The Beeston Civic Society is formally backing two community projects to help residents in Beeston, Nottinghamshire, reuse household items and cut down on waste. By promoting these initiatives, the charity aims to make it easier for people to repair broken goods and borrow tools rather than buying new ones.

The Beeston Repair Cafe is a volunteer-led group that holds events where people can bring in damaged items to be fixed. These sessions, which often take place at Beeston Methodist Church, are supported by the Nottingham Fixers network to help keep items out of landfills.

Another project being highlighted is the Beeston Library of Things, which allows people to hire out equipment they might only need once or twice. This non-profit service is run by volunteers in collaboration with the local library to help neighbours share resources.

This support for local sustainability groups is part of the society’s wider work in the community leading up to its annual events in September 2026. During that month, the society will also participate in the national Heritage Open Days to showcase the history and character of the town.
