Families living or working near the Hope House hub in Beeston, Nottinghamshire, can access bags of groceries at a significantly reduced price through a weekly community Food Club. The initiative, operated by Hope Nottingham, runs every Tuesday from 12:30pm to 2:00pm and allows members to buy a bag of food with an approximate value of £15 for just £3.50.
Joining the Food Club at the Boundary Road site costs £1 per family, per year. The service is available to anyone who lives or works within a 15-minute radius of Hope House, providing a low-cost option for people who may not need emergency help but still struggle with high prices.
The groceries in the bags are a mix of surplus items from supermarkets, community donations and fresh produce grown by local volunteers. Some of the food is grown at the charity’s community allotment on Wensor Avenue; the site has added polytunnels and a watering system in recent years, and produce from the allotment helps supply the Food Club.
This model is part of a wider effort by Nottinghamshire County Council to support affordable food projects across the region. The Food Club is independent from the Trussell Trust emergency voucher system and does not require a professional referral or voucher to join.
Organisers say the club helps reduce food waste while giving people a dignified way to shop during the ongoing cost-of-living crisis. As of January 2026, local charities report a continued plateau of high demand for these types of affordable food services.
