On 10 March 2026, Nottingham College announced a new partnership to help local residents find careers in the building industry by providing direct training and job opportunities. The college is working alongside the charity The King’s Trust and the construction firm Balfour Beatty to create clear paths into the workforce for students. This project will give students practical experience and support to help them find work, particularly in environmentally friendly building projects. Participants can access work placements on real construction sites, get help writing their CVs, and receive coaching for job interviews. The partnership follows a successful trial at the Lady Bay Footbridge project, where more than ten students took part in work placements and skill workshops. This new stage will grow the programme to include more learners, including those in the Construction Solar PV Bootcamp, based at the college’s Basford campus, which teaches skills for installing solar panels. The programme is designed to meet the growing need for skilled workers who can build low-carbon infrastructure. According to Nottingham College, the goal is to bridge the gap between classroom learning and the specific skills that building companies are looking for today.
