Specialist road repair machines will begin operating across Nottinghamshire during the week of 4 May 2026, marking a new step in the council’s effort to improve the county’s road network. The two new machines, designed to cut, crop, and clean potholes in a single visit, are expected to significantly speed up repairs for local residents.

Nottinghamshire County Council has leased the machines from Dawsongroup for a 12-month period. These machines are capable of preparing a single pothole for repair in as little as five minutes, with the potential to cover between 200 and 250 metres of road per day.

The rollout is being managed by Via East Midlands, the council-owned highways contractor. Staff will begin training on the equipment immediately as part of an expanded programme to address the roughly 38 per cent of county roads currently identified as being in poor condition.

This initiative is supported by a record £181.25 million investment in Nottinghamshire highways for 2026/27. This funding, described as the largest highways investment in the county’s history, aims to tackle a maintenance backlog estimated at £391 million.
