Nottingham City Transport (NCT) has launched its 2026 “Student Refresher” ticket deal to help students in Beeston, Nottinghamshire, save money on travel for the rest of the academic year. The promotion began in late January 2026 and offers a student single ticket for £2.30 when bought via the NCTX Buses app. This price is below the national single-fare cap of £3.

Students can also buy a “Refresher Pass” for approximately £185, which provides unlimited travel until 31 July 2026. The pass is aimed at those who did not purchase a full-year ticket in September or who are joining courses mid-year. To get the discounted fares, passengers must verify their student status in the NCTX Buses app using a valid university or college photo ID.

The deal applies to several local services on NCT’s Orange Line, including the Orange 36 (which runs through Beeston and Chilwell to the city centre), and related services such as the 36U and the N34 night service. NCT introduced timetable adjustments in late January (from 20 January 2026) to address diversions and improve reliability on routes serving Beeston and the University.

The University of Nottingham highlights its partnership with NCT to promote public transport; university materials note discounted student travel and NCT has said it is deploying more electric buses on key routes. NCT’s electrification programme has seen additional electric vehicles enter service since 2024, and the operator reports further deployment on Orange Line services in 2025–26 to help reduce noise and emissions in residential areas. These measures form part of wider efforts to keep student travel affordable as national fares and costs rise.
