A yellow weather warning for snow and ice is in place across Blackpool, Lancashire, as an Arctic blast brings freezing temperatures to the region. The Met Office issued the alert from the evening of February 13, 2026, through February 14, 2026, warning of significant travel disruption and hazardous conditions.

Temperatures are expected to drop as low as -7°C, creating a high risk of slips and falls on untreated pavements and roads. Blackpool Neighbourhood Watch is encouraging residents to avoid all non-essential journeys and to perform wellness checks on elderly or vulnerable neighbours during the freeze.

To keep priority routes open, Enveco NW has launched the local winter gritting service, known as Operation Snowdrop, on behalf of Blackpool Council. These teams work round the clock to treat main roads and ensure access to essential locations like Blackpool Victoria Hospital.

Across the wider region, Lancashire County Council has gritting crews on standby 24 hours a day to manage the icy weather. These drivers are responsible for treating approximately 1,800 miles of priority roads within the county’s 4,300-mile road network to help keep the community moving safely during the winter conditions.
