Blackpool Council has announced a new range of free adult education courses designed to help residents build their confidence, improve their job prospects, and develop new life skills. The initiative, run by the Blackpool Learning Rooms service, is open to anyone aged 19 or over in the area.

The courses cover a wide variety of subjects, including digital and computer skills, English and maths, health and wellbeing, employability training, cookery, and family learning. These opportunities are available at The Place on Clifton Street in the town centre and at the Palatine Library in South Shore. The council also offers the flexibility to deliver training within local communities at venues chosen by residents.

To help residents learn more about what is on offer, the council is hosting an open event on Thursday 23 April 2026. Interested individuals can visit The Place at 1 Clifton Street between 3:30pm and 5:00pm to speak with tutors and explore how these courses can support their personal and professional goals.

These learning opportunities are supported by funding from the UK Government Shared Prosperity Fund and the Town Deal. The initiative aims to provide practical support in a community that, according to the 2025 Indices of Multiple Deprivation, faces significant challenges regarding local employment, health, and disability.

As part of its focus on career development, the learning service works alongside Jobcentre Plus to help residents prepare for the workforce. The programme also maintains links with local employers, including the Sandcastle Waterpark, Merlin Entertainments, and Blackpool Zoo, to facilitate job placements and interview opportunities for learners.

Councillor Jo Farrell, Cabinet Member for Communities and Wellbeing, stated that the council is committed to helping residents gain confidence, develop new skills, and take positive steps forward.
