Blackpool Zoo in Lancashire has announced a £500,000 project to improve its giraffe habitat, allowing families to see the animals from new raised walkways. The area, known as the Kidepo Trail at Giraffe Heights, is expected to open to the public in time for the Easter 2026 holidays.
This new development will triple the size of the current outdoor space and include eye-level platforms where guests can watch the resident giraffes, O’Grady and Olympia. According to Blackpool Zoo, the site will also feature sounds from the African savannah and a new stable for a herd of sitatunga antelope.
The project includes education trails and safari-style lookout points designed to give visitors a better look at how the animals live. The zoo has named the trail after a national park in Uganda to show its support for the Giraffe Conservation Foundation, which works to protect the species in the wild.
Adam Kenyon, the head of large mammals at Blackpool Zoo, says the team is excited to reveal the changes this year. The investment is part of a long-term plan to improve animal care and provide new things for residents and tourists to do when they visit the community attraction.
