Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service (LFRS) tackled a commercial building fire on Lytham Road early on Tuesday morning, deploying six fire engines and an aerial ladder platform. The blaze broke out shortly before 7am, leaving no injuries but prompting temporary road closures and a full investigation.
The fire started in a flat above Joseph’s Grill takeaway at 160 Lytham Road in South Shore. Crews wearing breathing apparatus worked quickly to extinguish the flames, with the incident scaled back to three fire engines by 9am. By 10:39am, firefighters confirmed the fire was out, and all affected roads—including closures between St Chads Road and Bloomfield Road—were fully reopened by 11am.
Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service reported that the fire had also affected an empty property and Blackpool Tyres and Service Centre Ltd., which is located nearby. No injuries were reported, though residents were advised to keep windows and doors closed due to smoke in the area.
Eyewitness Jake Dagger, a sales assistant at Go Electrical who arrived around 7:30am, described a chaotic scene with thick black smoke filling the takeaway. “When I arrived, the takeaway was full of black smoke. The scene was chaotic, but it’s not looking too bad now,” he said.
Emergency services, including Lancashire Police, assisted with road closures and traffic management during the early stages of the incident. A formal fire investigation has since been launched to determine the cause of the blaze. The South Shore area has seen a cluster of commercial fires in recent months, including a major blaze on Waterloo Road in February 2026 that destroyed several businesses. No link between the incidents has been officially established.
