On 4 March 2026, Chris Webb, the MP for Blackpool South, and local councillors held a community meeting in South Shore, Lancashire, to help residents recover from a major fire on Waterloo Road. The meeting allowed people to talk directly with their representatives about the emergency response and what help is available for those who had to leave their homes or lost their businesses.

The fire happened on the night of 6 February 2026 and was so large that Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service had to use 15 fire engines to stop the flames. The blaze completely destroyed the Smart Play Blackpool indoor play centre and caused heavy damage to the Smart Mart furniture store, which led to road closures and the need to pull down unsafe buildings.

During the meeting, residents shared their concerns about safety around the site and asked for updates on the demolition work currently being managed by the local council. Representatives provided information on how families who were forced out of their houses can get support and access financial aid while the area is being made safe.

Mr Webb told the community that he is working to find extra funding to help rebuild the South Shore area and improve the high street. He asked anyone who is still struggling or needs help to contact his office directly so they can get the assistance they need to get back on their feet.
