Residents in Bloxwich, West Midlands, are paying tribute to former Mayor Dennis Anson after Walsall Council announced that he passed away in February 2026. Anson was a well-known figure across the borough who served as a local councillor for 25 years, from May 1991 until his retirement in May 2016.

He was a familiar face at many local events and is fondly remembered for formally opening the Bloxwich Carnival in 2012 during the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations. During his time as Mayor from 2012 to 2013, he also played a key role in hosting the Olympic Torch relay as it passed through the area.

Current Mayor Louise Harrison and Council Leader Mike Bird both praised Anson for his integrity and his reputation as a true gentleman. They described him as a man who was dedicated to his community and the people he represented for more than two decades.

During his mayoral year, Anson focused his efforts on raising money for Blood Cancer UK, a charity he supported for many years. To honour his legacy, the council and his wife, Kate Anson, are inviting people to make donations to the charity in his memory instead of sending flowers.
