On 2 February 2026 the Walsall Food Partnership launched the Bloxwich phase of its local food plan to help residents find affordable, healthy food more easily. The initiative forms part of the borough’s wider effort to improve long‑term food security by shifting the focus away from emergency food aid toward community‑run social supermarkets, community fridges and local growing projects.

The Bloxwich Community Partnership will manage the local hub, which includes a food pantry and a community fridge. The project aims to increase the availability of fresh produce within walking distance for more residents, particularly in wards such as Bloxwich East and Blakenall where access to healthy options has previously been limited.

The work is linked to the borough’s strategy, Feeding Walsall’s Future: Walsall’s Food Plan 2025–2030, which also emphasises reducing environmental impact and building a sustainable food system. National legislation (the Environment Act 2021) requires all local authorities to offer weekly food waste collections by 31 March 2026; Walsall Council has approved plans to introduce a food waste collection service for the borough as part of this timetable.

The Food Plan also supports school‑based programmes and community activity. The Food for Life programme (run by the Soil Association and commissioned by Walsall Council Public Health) is already supporting children in schools, and the Feeding Our Futures small grants programme funds voluntary and community sector groups to deliver cooking, growing and nutrition workshops. Organisers say these measures are intended to create a more reliable, local food system that supports residents’ health and the local economy over the long term.
