Walsall Council confirmed that 39 people paid fines for littering across the borough between 12 January and 9 February 2026. This action is part of a wider effort to keep local streets clean and discourage people from dropping rubbish in public spaces.

During this four-week window, enforcement teams handed out another 61 new penalty notices to people caught littering. The council is using CCTV cameras and regular patrols to find offenders, particularly those who throw rubbish from their cars.

People caught littering are usually asked to pay a £150 fine, though this is lowered to £120 if they pay within 14 days. If a case goes to court, the costs can increase to more than £500 for the person involved.

Councillor Adam Hicken, Portfolio Holder for Enforcement and Safe Communities, said the council has a zero-tolerance approach to keeping the area tidy. All the money collected from these fines is put back into paying for more monitoring, investigations, and CCTV equipment to catch more offenders.

To avoid these costs, residents are being encouraged to use official recycling centres like the one on Fryers Road in Bloxwich or the newly opened site on Middlemore Lane in Aldridge. By using these legal disposal routes, the council hopes to see fewer items dumped on the borough’s streets.
